Mr. Philip Stubbs - Chairman

Mr. Philip Barrington Stubbs is the Chairman of the Securities Commission of The Bahamas having been appointed effective July 1, 2007. He also serves as Acting Executive Director of the Commission, an interim appointment effective September 1, 2010. Prior to his appointment as Chairman of the Commission, he served as a member of the Executive Board of Ernst & Young Bahamas, Bermuda and Cayman Area Practices and as the Country Managing Partner of Ernst & Young (Bahamas), for over 10 years, until his retirement on June 30, 2007. He is also the Chairman of the Compliance Commission of the Bahamas and a Director of the Central Bank of The Bahamas.

A graduate of the Government High School, 1970 and the Atlantic Provinces Association of Chartered Accountants, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, 1975; Mr. Stubbs has many years of experience in accounting, auditing and business advisory services, and a keen understanding of the financial sector. He has worked with a wide range of clientele including international, domestic and public-sector clients; in industries such as professional services, financial services, health care, utilities, transport and shipping and retail and wholesale merchandising. His more than 36 years experience in the accounting field, 27 of which was at the senior managerial level, together with his broad knowledge base makes him the perfect candidate for the role of Executive Chairman, serving as the Interim Executive Director of the Commission.

Mr. Stubbs is the distinguished recipient of the 2006 Minister of Financial Services Award of Excellence. He is a member of both the Canadian and Bahamas Institutes of Chartered Accountants, a former Council Member, Treasurer and Secretary of the Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants and has served on various Institute's committees. His current areas of interest include Risk Management, Financial Statement Reporting, and Corporate Governance, and he has undertaken a number of consultancies in these areas. He also served as a part-time lecturer at the College of The Bahamas during 2008 – 2009.

Mr. Stubbs is a member of several civic organizations and has served on many local Boards and Committees. He is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Over-the-Hill and has served as Distinguished President from 1982 to 1983 and Lieutenant-Governor of Merit for the Kiwanis Clubs in The Bahamas from 1986 to 1987. He is also Treasurer and Executive Board member of the Bahamas Children's Emergency Hostel. In addition he is a member of the Delta Lambda Boulé (Bahamas Chapter of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Inc.).

A devoted churchgoer Mr. Stubbs worships at St. Anne's Parish, Fox Hill, where he is a Vestry member. His other interests include photography and music appreciation

Mr. Stubbs is married to Sharlamae (nee Brice) and together they are the proud parents of three sons, a daughter-in-law and a grand-daughter.
